Past Events:

In 2016,  we had the opportunity to attend several community events and share information about the Upper Detroit Riverfront Habitat and Parks Restoration Project.  We appreciate meeting many community members and stakeholders during this time. Please visit the Blog to read more about our community engagement efforts over the summer, and stay tuned about upcoming opportunities to be involved in 2017, starting with the Community Open House!

Date: Saturday, June 11 2016

Event: Free Fishing Festival

Location: Lakewood- East Park, (Located at the end of Alter Road)

Time: 10 AM - 2 PM

What: Fish the Detroit River during Free Fishing Weekend! Learn why the Upper Detroit Riverfront Habitat and Parks Restoration Project is important, meet members of the project team, and take a look at some proposed improvements to the shoreline and park.

Community Open House

As part of the community engagement and public input process, the project team will host an open house to review proposed restoration opportunities, introduce the project team, and get feedback on the project.

The open house was held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017. Details can be found here.

Event: Jefferson-Chalmers Block Build

Location: 845 Lakewood, Detroit

Time: 9 AM

What: Join the Michigan Historic Preservation Network, Brick + Beam Detroit, and many other partners for a one-day community revitalization event in the historic Jefferson-Chalmers neighborhood! Learn why the Upper Detroit Riverfront Habitat and Parks Restoration Project is important, meet members of the project team, and take a look at some proposed improvements to the shoreline and park.

Event: Jefferson-Chalmers Block Build

Location: 845 Lakewood, Detroit

Time: 9 AM

Event: ARISE Detroit Neighborhood Day

Location: Jordan Missionary Baptist Church, 703 Newport Street and Maheras-Gentry Park, 12550 Avondale Street

Time: Maheras-Gentry 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM and Jordan Missionary Baptist Church 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM

What: Neighborhoods Day celebrates all the great work block clubs, churches, schools  community groups and local businesses do throughout the year in the effort to create a better Detroit. 

There are two great opportunities to be involved on Neighborhoods Day in the Jefferson-Chalmers area!

 

The Southeast Waterfront Neighborhood Association is hosting a cleanup event at Jordan Missionary Baptist Church from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM with a picnic to follow. All are encouraged to attend. The event will go until 3:00 PM. 

The Alliance for the Great Lakes is hosting an Adopt-A-Beach Cleanup at Maheras-Gentry Park from 10: 00 AM- 12:00 PM. Workers are encouraged to bring gloves.
